California
- San Francisco Bay shoreline subsidence areas Satellite radar mapping published in Science Advances showed substantial stretches of the San Francisco Bay shoreline — much of it built on artificial fill and young bay mud — that subside at rates locally near 10 mm per year.
- San Joaquin Valley subsidence region The San Joaquin Valley holds some of the largest documented land subsidence on Earth — historically up to about 9 meters near Mendota — caused by agricultural groundwater pumping.
